The General Motors concern intends to take one of the highest ship segments of the car market — premium electric pickups and SUVs. As Reuters reported with reference to own sources in the concern, the GM electric family may appear on the market under the Hummer resurrected by the brand, but the final decision has not yet been accepted. According to the analysts of the automotive industry, the use of such a famous brand like Hummer for electric pickups and SUVs is an excellent idea for General Motors, because «half of marketing is already paid.»

Serial production of new electrocars will be put on the factory in Detroit. As part of the implementation of the program under the code name BT1 in the construction of the plant invest 3 billion dollars. Another 7.7 billion dollars over the next four years, the concern plans to invest in their American plants. Also, the BT1 program involves the development of an electric pickup of the GMC brand by 2022 and the Cadillac electrical SUV by 2023.

According to preliminary information, Pickups and SUVs of the BT1 family will use a new architecture for electric vehicles, including a «skateboard» chassis that combines an electric motor and batteries. The price tag of an electric pickup will be about 90 thousand dollars, while the SUV will cost more than 100 thousand dollars.

According to the president GM, the brand of the flight, the new electrical architecture will be very flexible, which will allow you to collect at the factory in Detroit the front, rear and all-wheel drive models of different sizes and with different types of body. At full capacity — about 80 thousand electric cars per year — the plant will be released in 2024.

As stated in the company, investments in the development of electrocarbers and drones will be $ 8 billion, and the new electric line by 2023 will consist of 20 models. Within the framework of the «electrical» program, GM also plans to open a factory for the production of batteries near the closed plant in Lordstown, Ohio. Investments in this project will be 1.3 billion dollars.
