The global transformation of the automotive technological paradigm in the root changes the ideas about personal mobility, demanding new products and solutions from the component suppliers. Will they provide them? We do not say anything for everyone, but the Slovenian company Hidria will undoubtedly be able to be very closely monitored by the development of industry trends and takes the necessary actions, working what is called, «on ahead». About how it happens, our correspondent told

I am absolutely sure — the next 5-10 years marked with changes much more significant than those that have occurred over the past 50 years. The world, definitely, stands on the threshold of colossal in their meaning and depth of change.

Moreover, it is very important, they will not only affect the power installation of the vehicle — to speak only about the transition from hydrocarbon fuel to electricity is not quite correct, since the principle of mobility itself is transformed as such. Crashing, various forms of leasing, short-term and long-term rental and other tools open huge opportunities before society. People disappears the need to focus on a personal car. From the discharge of the «owners», they go to the class of «users», which in the modern rhythm overwhelmed megalopolises is extremely relevant and in demand.

Poisoning in the morning to work, you take one car, returning to the other in the evening. What could be easier? You no longer need a personal car, because the required level of mobility — it is precisely personal mobility that can be completely successfully provided by alternatives.

Another important aspect is an autonomous movement. A lot of work is now in this area. Huge resources are invested — both human, and financial. The drones are constantly tested, and, as we see, drones — and on traditional types of fuel: gasoline and diesel.

Well, in third, — of course, the constitutionality (or connected) of vehicles and related services, when each person can download the entire complex of necessary applications on their mobile phone or any other means of individual communications, providing its continuous online connection with the car. I do not exclude the fact that we can very soon, if you want, personally communicate with your car by phone. How it will look, I do not know, but it will definitely. That is, the car ceases to exist as if by itself, it connects to cloud technologies, becoming part of a single network that interacts and in which it functions. It is bad or good — it is unknown, but this is where the situation is developing. And each of the destinations listed by me, which is also fundamentally important, very closely with each other is connected, complementing and intersecting in a variety of points of contact.

It’s hard to say how the industry will look like in a few years, because too many factors determine its development, and it is not clear how these factors will refer to the future. Today it is really impossible to predict the share of electric vehicles: 10%, 20%, 30% … Because the vector is ambiguous. Pretty many problems and tasks in the context of electric transport, which are not yet solved properly. Yes, all the actual tasks and problems are still not solved.

See yourself. There is still no fairly developed network charging stations in the world, charging time is too long, the battery recycling process is not supplied and not adjusted, and most importantly — we do not know whether it is enough for the entire predicted electricity park. We do not want to burn hydrocarbon fuel, we do not want to use nuclear energy, so where do we take a sufficient amount of electricity to millions of electric cars?

However, one thing can be said completely accurately — the production of cars will grow. Grow up impressive volumes in any case. There are huge markets in their size, the consumption of automotive equipment on which is not reduced. This is primarily China, India, USA and so on.

We always try to be one step ahead. We do not want to follow in the overall stream, trying to get up at the head of the movement. In this regard, about two years ago, we have been released a completely new product that has committed a real coup in the diesel world.

It is clear that the diesel injection systems are currently experiencing not the best times due to the famous scandal, but they continue to develop and therefore need to be improved. One of these very and very effective improvements was proposed by engineers of our company. This is an incandescent candle with pressure sensor — Optymus PSG. This technology will ensure constant control over work and combustion in diesel engines, reducing harmful emissions up to 30%, which fully complies with the EU environmental standards.

Optymus PSG incandescent candle is built into the combustion chamber diesel engine. It measures the pressure in the engine for more than one hundred thousand times per second and transmits the data obtained through the built-in microelectronics and the digital algorithm on the central computer. Thus, the system optimizes fuel injection in real time, adjusts the combustion processes, reducing fuel consumption and radically reducing exhaust gas emissions.

Hidria Optymus PSG incandescent candle is protected by 15 international patents, more than 25 million euros were invested in its creation, more than 30 people participated in the project. It is already installed on modern diesel engines of the world’s largest automakers, such as Audi, Volkswagen, Seat and Skoda. Therefore, their new diesel engines respond to all applicable and new environmental rules that will take effect in 2020. In our factory, a high-tech automated production line is launched in Tolmina for the manufacture of this incandescent candle with the Optymus PSG pressure sensor.

Practically with everyone, because Hidria is one of the world’s largest producers of incandescent. We conduct the main business in Europe, since the diesel injection systems in Europe are of the greatest distribution. But we sell our products around the world — both in Australia, and in Africa, and in both America, that is, on all continents.

We supply components not only by car manufacturers, but also cargo machinery (including Russian KAMAZ, as well as Man, Scania, Caterpilar, Cummins, Yanmar, etc.) and special purpose (construction, agricultural, etc.).

For example, our partnership with the PSA group began about 20 years ago; Today, our Dieseltec program is represented in all models of Citroen, Peugeot and DS cars with diesel engines, including the newest DV5R. Thanks to its Hidria solutions, it is also present in Opel diesel engines.

For more than 12 years, the partnership with IVECO lasts. We supply their incandescent candles to Iveco conveyor for 2.3L engines (F1A) and 3.0L (F1C). These candles are installed in two bestseller models — Iveco Daily and Fiat Ducato.

Since 2017, Hidria collaborates with a group of VAG. Our incandescent candles are installed in 1.6L and 2.0L diesel engines and cover more than 50% of the needs of the Volkswagen Group. This is an important partnership with the Volkswagen group, one of the world’s leading manufacturers, is even more strengthens the global position of our company as a reliable supplier of components for the cold start of a diesel engine.

Hidria incandescent consists of all the requirements of EURO 6.2, allow to reduce energy consumption and reduce the amount of environmentally harmful emissions.

About 2 years ago, within the framework of the organizational structure of the company, a new division of Hidria Advancetec was allocated, the main task of which is the development of new products with an emphasis on electromotive. Following the vision of the corporation, we are focused on developing new products and technologies — from preliminary design to pre-production testing, monitoring products and technological trends, as well as cooperation with external partners. In particular, with Renault-Nissan concern, we already cooperate in developing solutions for electrical hybrid engines.

Changes on the after-sales service market will be, in my opinion, are even more serious than in business. Traditional techniques and methods, of course, will remain, but will cease to be as important as now.

Today, the most common service for cars is to replace the oil and filters. For electric vehicles, as you understand perfectly, there is no need. But another will appear — it will be necessary to change the batteries, update the software and a lot of the most diverse types of work, which we now have only a very vague representation.

Therefore, the mechanics will have to receive new knowledge, develop new skills and competences. They will cease to be actually mechanics and are learn in full engineers. They will appreciate not so much for «golden hands», as it is now customary to say how much for the «golden head». They will have to work very tightly and work a lot with computers, with information systems. Moreover, I am not talking about the diagnoses, namely Prome, whose activity will be unthinkable without the ability to handle high-tech systems of the future car.

And these cars of the future, I must say, will be no less complex than space ships: software, application, electronic control, and so on.

This is a big challenge for small hundred. They will have to buy new equipment — repair and diagnostic. They will have to invest in learning and adapt to new conditions. But I am sure that the process will not go too quickly — the production of gasoline and diesel cars will not stop instantly, they will be operated on the roads in large quantities in large quantities, and the professional community will be in prosperity. The main thing is to properly use this time and properly prepare for the requirements of tomorrow.
