The Italian automaker Alfa Romeo is experiencing not the best times. A few years ago, the head of the Italian concern FIAT Sergio Markionna decided to decide the gradual «plum» of the Lancia brand and the full development of the Alfa Romeo brand. But something went wrong, as the famous top manager thought. This year, the Lancia Ypsilon model showed a significant sales gain, and as a result of Lancia in Europe even overtook the sales volume of Alfa Romeo! Therefore, the 112-year-old brand is decided not to bury, but Alafa Romeo to develop in another direction.
Recently, Alfa Romeo leaders canceled the decision on the production of supercar 8c and the sports car GTV, about the intention to build which they declared earlier.
Instead, the Italian firm will focus on the new SUV of the B-segment and the recently represented model of the Tonale C-segment SUV.
After the 4C sports car already «slipped out» from the range, the Italian brand will also soon give up the sale of the Giulietta hatchback, reducing its scheduled for 2022 model range from seven models to four.
Giulietta may be canceled next year, and Giulia and Stelvio will switch to 2020 without change, with the update of the middle of the cycle for both models scheduled for 2021. New
According to the Alfa Romeo review for the third quarter, 8C and GTV projects were aimed at reducing costs and bringing a brand in line with current market trends. The company also announced that for the new Tonale, it is planned to use a hybrid transmission with a plug-in module, and that its new B-segment SUV will be offered with a fully electrical power plant — and the other technologies are first used on Alfa Romeo.
A couple of new ALFA Romeo SUVs will be released on the whole world market, where Tonale has already shown the sale better than that of BMW X1, Volkswagen T-Roc, Audi Q3 and Nissan Qashqai. The B-segment SUV will also face rigid competition in the face of Skoda Kamiq, Citroen C3 Aircross, Renault Captur and completely new Nissan Juke.
These models of Alfa Romeo are unlikely to fall into Russia. Alfa Romeo in the Russian Federation is not represented.
